Budget Accommodation
There is plenty budget accommodation around the Pham Ngu Lao district where backpackers hostels abound. Many will collect you at the airport if you book in advance for a few days. Here are a few better options within the budget category.

Bi & Bee Saigon Hotel

Two popular budget options within a stone’s throw of one another in the backpacker area. Comfortable rooms and a nice restaurant in the pleasant courtyard at the back.
An An Hotel
40 Bui Vien Street, D1
This establishment is a cut above the rest for this area with particularly well-appointed rooms with ensuite bathroom, TV and minibar yet still at very reasonable prices.
Tranh Anh Guesthouse
185/24 Bui Vien, D1
This is one of the best family-run budget hotels in the backpacker area. It has large air-conditioned rooms with balconies and most rooms have ensuite bathrooom and satellite TV. Good prices and very popular so book well in advance.
Miss Loi’s Guesthouse
178/20 Ð Co Giang, D1
This long established, family run guesthouse remains a firm favourite among visitors. It lies about a 10 minute walk from the Pham Ngu Lao backpacking area in a quiet area called Co Giang. Great choice if you’re looking for a laid back place with a genuinely welcoming family atmosphere.

Spring Hotel
44-46 Le Thanh Ton, D1
This is our choice hotel in HCMC. Located in the Dong Khoi district it has fabulous rooms overlooking the city, is spotlessly clean with a very pleasant staff who make you feel very welcome. Near some good bars and restaurants so ideal for our purposes.
Que Huong
127 Pham Ngu Lao, D1
Very comfortable hotel in the backpacker area with views over the city. Certainly one of the best mid-range hotels in this district so book in advance as this is a popular option.
Saigon Star
204 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, D3
Nice hotel with views over the park. Facilities include a spa, sauna and massage as well as two restaurants and a karaoke club. All rooms have satellite TV.
Metropole
148 Tran Hung Dao, D1
This hotel is particularly well known for its outdoor swimming pool which can be very pleasant after a day of sightseeing. Otherwise nothing special.
Lan Lan Hotel 2
46 Thu Khoa Huan, D1
Located near the Ben Thanh market this is a clean, modern hotel providing easy access to close to the Pham Ngu Lao district in one direction and the the Dong Khoi area in the other.
Luxury Hotels
The central district of Ho Chi Minh City is still known as Saigon. The following Saigon hotels are in the upmarket to luxury price category. The majority of HCMC’s top hotels are in District 1, mainly in the Dong Khoi area. Published rates tend to be way above what the current “promotional rate” turns out to be.
Continental Hotel

The grandfather of Saigon hotels with over 100 years of history. Still offers first class service and has the best location in town. Much of Graham Greene’s The Quiet American was set here.
Caravelle Hotel
19 Lam Son Square, D1 Tel: 823 4999, HCMC
This was a classic hotel favoured by journalists during the war years. Today it is a truly luxurious property which is home to the well known Saigon Saigon Bar which is housed on the 10th floor and is one of the city’s hot spots.
Hotel Majestic
1 Dong Khoi, D1 Tel: 829 5512, HCMC
The Majestic dates back to 1925 and has the colonial architecture to prove it. Fabulous location overlooking the Saigon river and first class facilities including gym, spa and pool. The Cyclo Bar on the top floor is a great place for early evening cocktails.
Rex Hotel

An ageing classic right in the city centre near the Hotel de Ville. Its well-known open-air bar on the 6th floor is very popular.
New World

This was the original luxury hotel in Ho Chi Minh city. Today it isn’t as flashy as some of the newcomers but is stiil a fine option for business travellers.
Renaissance Riverside

This flashy skyscraper is a truly luxurious option standing on the Saigon river with stunning views. All the quality facilities you’d expect of a genuine five-star hotel.
Norfolk Hotel

For some years the Norfolk has been the hotel of choice for many foreign business executives. Its bar on the top floor has proven most popular with expense account travellers. Well worth booking in advance.
Sofitel Plaza

Very popular with business travellers with fine business and leisure facilities including two good restaurants, a rooftop swimming pool and the L’Elysée bar where there are regular live jazz performances.
Omni Saigon Hotel
251 Nguyen Van Troi, Phu Nhuan Tel: 844 9222, HCMC
The Omni was long considered the finest of Saigon’s hotels and to this day offers the most luxurious service. However, for tourism purposes the hotel isn’t convenient as it’s located near the airport so you’ll need to use the free shuttle provided for guests. Popular with business travellers.
Park Hyatt

Very much aimed at business travellers and wealthy tourists this luxury hotel offers a range of luxurious suites, two restaurants, a swimming pool, spa and fitness centre.
Sheraton

This is the newest of the city’s luxury hotels located right in the city centre.
